Health-RI

Health-RI is the emerging national health data infrastructure in the Netherlands, originating from a public-private partnership of organizations involved in health research and care. The mission of Health-RI is to arrive at better health for citizens and patients by reusing health data through an integrated data infrastructure for research and innovation. Health-RI strives for optimal access to knowledge, tools, facilities, health data and samples, aimed to promote a sustainable and affordable personalized medicine (https://www.health-ri.nl/).

Role of institution in the project

Health-RI is involved in the implementation of the central hub (WP4), with the specific task of establishing a FAIR metadata portal supporting federated search and query, as well as services for collecting searchable FAIR Metadata from XNAT imaging databases, including quality control (Task lead for T4.3). In addition, Health-RI supports storage of imaging data and contributes expertise to the governance. Within WP6, Health-RI will also contribute to the design of the federated learning and data analysis infrastructure.

Niels Bolding

Niels Bolding is technical lead for Health-RI. He coordinates a team of architects and implementation engineers to design and implement the Dutch health research infrastructure. Niels is educated as embedded software engineer, soon changed to commercial occupations in de application software sector. After an Executive MBA study at Erasmus University, he participated in many projects in different roles like business annalist, program manager and enterprise architect, closing the gap between business challenges and innovative solutions. The past 10 years these projects were focused on the health sector, with challenges like civilian health portals and data interoperability.

Esther Bron

Esther Bron (PhD) is imaging data coordinator of the architecture team of Health-RI. Esther also leads a research group at the department of Radiology & Nuclear Medicine of Erasmus MC. Her main expertise is medical image analysis, (federated) machine learning, multi-center clinical studies, and infrastructure for large-scale imaging studies (a.o. XNAT).

Jan Willem Boiten

Jan Willem Boiten (PhD) is senior program manager at Health-RI, dedicated to large health data infrastructure programs nationally and internationally. Most recent projects include large EU programs such as FAIRplus, Bigpicture, and EOSC-Life.

Stefan Klein

Stefan Klein (PhD) is manager of the Health-RI Imaging Community, and he has initiated the national Health-RI XNAT research archive for medical imaging data, currently used by numerous multi-center imaging studies in the Netherlands. He is also leading a research group in medical image analysis and AI at the Department of Radiology & Nuclear Medicine of Erasmus MC.
