We are thrilled to announce the launch of the Open Call for Proposals under the EU4Health 2024 annual work programme. Among the four new calls, one is directly related to EUCAIM, offering a unique opportunity for cancer imaging data providers to contribute to and benefit from the European Cancer Imaging Initiative.
Call for Proposal to support integration of cancer images into the federated pan-European infrastructure to foster screening programmes – CR-g-24-37 (EU4H-2024-PJ-02-1)
Key Objectives of the Call:
- Enable Support for Imaging Data Providers: The action aims to support cancer imaging data providers in contributing to and benefiting from the European Cancer Imaging Initiative.
- Improve Readiness of Imaging Data Repositories: The action seeks to enhance the readiness of national, regional, or local imaging data repositories to connect and make their data available via the Cancer Image Europe infrastructure.
- Utilize EUCAIM Infrastructure: Participants will be able to use the Cancer Image Europe infrastructure for data enrichment and insights, accessing nodes, tools, and methodologies offered by EUCAIM.
- Align with EHDS: This action will seek alignment with the proposed European Health Data Space (EHDS) infrastructures, such as MyHealth@EU and HealthData@EU.
- Leverage Interoperability Specifications: The action will explore ways to leverage EHDS interoperability specifications for the European Electronic Health Record exchange Format and related eHealth Network guidelines.
- Strengthen Health Systems: The action also aims to strengthen health systems in line with the proposed EHDS Regulation and the EU4Health Programme’s objectives.
Scope
This action contributes to the implementation of the Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan.
Expected impact:
The action will support hospitals and imaging repositories, including those conducting cancer screening, in becoming nodes in the European federated infrastructure of cancer imaging data. Short-term impacts include enhanced collaboration between national and regional screening programs for breast, lung, and prostate cancers and the European Cancer Imaging Infrastructure, particularly in managing screening data and opportunistic screening. This initiative will involve a diverse range of stakeholders such as researchers, NGOs, experts, Member States institutions, and industry.
In the mid-term, the action aims to expand the geographical reach of the European Cancer Imaging Initiative and align it with the proposed European Health Data Space (EHDS) infrastructures. Participants will closely collaborate with the EUCAIM project and relevant stakeholders involved in the EHDS regulatory framework, such as the TEHDAS 2 Joint Action and the HealthData@EU pilot project. The initiative will also establish connections with EU4Health actions on screening and other initiatives under the Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan and the Cancer Mission.
