EUCAIM Consortium Meeting in Brussels: Advancing Cancer Image Europe

Today, the EUCAIM Consortium gathered in Brussels and online for its third consortium meeting, bringing together partners to discuss the project’s progress and next steps.

Our Scientific Coordinator, Prof. Luis Martí-Bonmatí, highlighted a key distinction: EUCAIM is not a research project – it is building a pioneering pan-European federated infrastructure for research and innovation. This infrastructure will enable data holders to share medical imaging data, empowering industry, researchers, and policymakers to drive advancements in cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Reflecting on two years of achievements, the meeting showcased EUCAIM’s significant milestones, including:

Federated infrastructure deployment: The launch of the Cancer Image Europe platform with 8 core services, such as integrated public catalogue, federated search, access negotiation, helpdesk, training, and monitoring services.
Data collection & integration: Over 300,000 image series from 47,000+ subjects, with 57 imaging data collections and 40 datasets registered.
Reference nodes & demonstrators: 2 secure processing environments, 40 tools covering the data preparation pipeline, and 3 federated processing demonstrators.
Data model & hyper-ontology: A robust hyper-ontology with 25,000+ standard terms for 7 cancer types.
User engagement & validation: 80+ registered users and continuous platform improvement through feedback.
Expansion & sustainability: A sustainability strategy in place, collaboration with 11 Member States on the future EDIC, and new partnerships through an Open Call that welcomed 19 new members.

Looking ahead, EUCAIM will continue enriching the platform with new data, engaging key stakeholders, and refining use cases to benchmark, test, and validate its capabilities.

A sincere thank you to all participants, both in-person and online, for their dedication and contributions to shaping the future of Cancer Image Europe!
