EIBIR

The European Institute for Biomedical Imaging Research (EIBIR) is a non-profit research organisation dedicated to the coordination of research projects. It aims to support the development of biomedical imaging technologies and the dissemination of knowledge. It was established on the initiative of The European Society of Radiology (ESR) in 2006 and funded by the European Commission within Framework Programme 6. EIBIR’s mission is to improve cooperation within the European biomedical imaging community, with the goal of improving the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases. The organisation actively supports research networking activities, common initiatives, and interoperability in the field of biomedical imaging research by providing services in proposal writing, project management and taking the lead in dissemination and communication activities.

Peter Gordebeke

Peter Gordebeke graduated with a Master’s degree in Medical Biology from Radboud University Nijmegen, Netherlands. He has experience in small non-coding RNA and micro RNA research and spent time in the pharmaceutical industry establishing new molecular testing methods, including the validation of critical testing equipment. Since joining EIBIR in 2014, he as been involved in several EU-funded research projects in various capacities, ranging from coordination to project management and leading the communication and dissemination aspects. Peter currently serves as the main coordinator contact for the EUCAIM project (Cancer Image Europe) and the ODELIA project. He is the project manager for the Alternatives To Gd and Med-IPUT projects and shares this role with his colleague Katharina for the HyperProbe project. Peter is the lead communication and dissemination manager for EuCanImage and RadioVal. In addition, Peter lead the data management and collection activities within EIBIR.

Monika Hierath

Monika Hierath has more than a decade of experience in coordinating and managing international projects and recruiting organisations for consortia of excellence (FP6, FP7, Horizon 2020, COST, EC tender projects). She is in charge of running the EIBIR team, working closely with the EIBIR Scientific Director and all bodies of the organisation at strategic and operational levels. She has contributed to the establishment of EIBIR and coordinated a pan-European data collection effort of biomedical imaging research expertise. Among the numerous projects coordinated and managed under her supervision, she has coordinated the project management team of the FP7 ENCITE project with 29 beneficiaries and a budget of €12 million, the H2020 MEDIRAD project with 33 beneficiaries and a budget of €10 million, and she has been the co-leader of the communication and dissemination work package of the Euro-BioImaging preparatory phase project, an ESFRI roadmap project on imaging research infrastructure. In addition she has had a supervisory or leading role within the EIBIR team in all projects of EIBIR. Apart from her role within EIBIR, Monika Hierath heads the European Society of Radiology (ESR) department of European and International Affairs since 2007, acts as an international relations advisor to the International Society of Radiology (ISR) and manager of the International Society for Strategic Studies in Radiology (IS3R), which has allowed her to build a considerable network of contacts to political stakeholders, related professional organisations, patient organisations, as well as medical industry at the European and international level. Given her role, she also acts as a liaison to the leadership of the European Society of Radiology.

Eszter Balazs

Eszter joined the EIBIR team in November 2022 as a Junior Project Manager. She has experience in international tender coordination, project management, communication activities and EU affairs. She graduated with a master’s degree in Global Political Economy from the University of Bristol and finished her undergraduate studies in Economics and Politics at the University of Exeter. She is currently involved with the coordination and management of the HyperProbe project, and supports the management and dissemination of several additional Horizon Europe projects, including RadioVal and ODELIA.

Valentina Belmar

Valentina joined EIBIR in February 2023 as Junior Project Manager. She has experience in translation, international relations, diplomacy, project management and communication activities. She has a diploma in Translation and Interpreting from Universidad de Concepción and she graduated with a Master's Joint Degree in Global Studies - A European Perspective from the University of Leipzig and the University of Vienna. Valentina supports in the management and dissemination of EUCAIM and Med-IPUT.
