Centro Hospitalar Universitário de Santo António

With more than 5000 employees, Centro Hospitalar Universitário de Santo António, situated in the heart of Porto, North of Portugal, provides acute and specialist healthcare services. Born in 2007, this hospital Center was formed by the merging of four pre-existing Healthcare Institutions, Hospital Santo António, Hospital Magalhães Lemos, Centro Materno Infantil do Norte Albino Aroso, and the Centro de Genética Médica Jacinto de Magalhães.

The Center has a long track record in research and education, influencing care and treatment nationally and worldwide. Centro Hospitalar Universitário de Santo António are at the moment developing a growing range of integrated and digital care services.

The Radiology Department of CHUdSA, led by Prof. Manuela França, provides a comprehensive adult and paediatric inpatient and outpatient diagnostic imaging service, including imaging modalities such as General Radiology, Ultrasound, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Computed Tomography (CT), Mammography and Tomosynthesis, and a diagnostic and therapeutic Interventional Radiology Unit. Furthermore, the Department supports services to the Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit.

Role of institution in the project

Santo Antonio (previously CHUPorto) collaborates in many clinical trials and its Radiology Department has a wide experience in the interpretation of cancer imaging studies from MRI, CT and other radiological modalities. Furthermore, Santo Antonio is a partner at the CHAIMELEON project. The collaboration in CHAIMELEON brought knowledge and experience in data collection and validation of AI algorithms. Concerning the EUCAIM project, the institution will act as a data provider, collaborating as well in operating procedures for image annotation including lesion annotation, anatomy and pathological lesion segmentation. Therefore, the institution will contribute to the design, set-up and validation of the EUCAIM repository.
