Centre for Genomic Regulation

The Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) is a non-profit foundation created as a partnership between the Catalan Government and the Spanish Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness and affiliated with the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF). As an international biomedical research institute of excellence, the CRG also part of pan-European infrastructure networks (e.g., Elixir, EuroBioImaging, MuG), as well as large international initiatives (GA4GH, ENCODE, GTEX).

The European Genome-phenome Archive (EGA) is a service for permanent archiving and distributing of personally identifiable genetic, phenotypic and clinical data generated for the purposes of biomedical research projects or in the context of research-focused healthcare systems. Jointly managed by the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI) in Cambridge (UK) and the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) in Barcelona, the EGA provides a service to the worldwide biomedical research community.

Role of institution in the project

The EGA is mainly involved in Work Packages 4 and 5, where, among others, the team contributes with their expertise in Beacon, specifically, with the development of Beacon for images. Other contributions to the project include the experience gained in the deployment of our federated network, the Federated EGA, and the experience gained as partners of EuCanImage (AI4HI initiative) contributing to the definition of common data models, ontologies, and data standards.

Role of institution in the project

MUW will contribute to research and development across the project with a focus on the bridging to the clinical community, and the development of methodology in the area of continual machine learning and cancer imaging.
