The European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) has published a new report on the future of AI in medical imaging, identifying current challenges and priority areas for responsible deployment across Europe.
We are proud to share that EUCAIM (the European Cancer Imaging Initiative) is explicitly mentioned in the report as one of the EU initiatives advancing cross-border access to imaging data while ensuring compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Key challenges identified in the report:
- Lack of high-quality, annotated imaging datasets
- Limited clinical validation of AI systems
- Need for clear lifecycle monitoring and regulatory oversight
How EUCAIM is addressing these priorities:
- Building a federated, secure infrastructure for cancer imaging data across Europe
- Supporting development of trustworthy, FAIR-compliant AI tools
- Aligning with the AI Act and the European Health Data Space (EHDS)
